I'm back!

Between changing jobs and moving back and forth across the country a few times, I haven't had any time to update this blog. Plus, everything I have been creating has not been too exciting and, in my opinion, not worth of sharing with the world. But now I am settled and working on some new and exciting art, so hopefully I will be posting a lot more from now on.

Here is a work in progress that I just started a few days ago:

New Textile Design

inspired by Russian folk art!

Argus in Color

Flour Sack

Sneaky!

Argus

This is a character that I have been working on for a class project. I wrote a story about him for a story development class. Basically, he is a tree guardian and he patrols a section of a forest to make sure that all of the trees are healthy. Here is the original sketch:

After reworking him a few times, here is the character turn around model sheet:

I will post some more characters from the story soon!

Caricature Sketches

French Maid #2

It's fun starting a sketch from scratch and seeing if it improves!

French Maid

I haven't posted in ages so here is a recent sketch. 15 min.

Animation Beginnings

So I have been neglecting this blog lately, but I have a good reason for it! I just started my Masters program for 3D animation at the Academy of Art University. It has been keeping me very busy. I have little time to illustrate right now, as I am learning the ins and outs of animation basics. I am only a few weeks into the program, and I have been learning basic animation principles and doing some studies using traditional animation. I promise I will be posting more illustrations and sketches when I manage to squeeze some in between all of my other work.

For now, here are a couple of studies I did recently.

Picking up grocery bags of varying weights:

A simple walk cycle:

Stay tuned! Soon I will hopefully start uploading new (and more interesting) things. :)

Father Frost Concept Paintings

Concept paintings for my reinterpretation of the Russian film "Morozko". Acrylic on illustration board.

Father Frost Storyboard

This is a quick storyboard based on the 1964 Russian movie "Morozko" (translation: Father Frost). This is a scene that I redesigned in which the main hero of the story meets the girl that he falls in love with. (click to enlarge)

Haiku Book

Book of Haikus for InDesign class (this was mostly a joke):

Special thanks to Otto Chin and Greg Boccieri for writing some of these poems.

skydive home

I just found this old photograph that I took back in 2004 when I was abroad in Italy.

This was in Lucca (a town in Tuscany).

I took a picture of this cute fuzzy guy on a farm in Connecticut:
